This competition closed on 31st July but submissions are still being accepted to be included in the public art exhibition later this year. FIRST PHOTOGRAPH ENTRY IS FREE
Arts Connect is pleased to introduce: Here Today... a photo essay of Kentuckyduring covid-19. This is an ambitious statewide community project to create a unique photographic portrait which captures the spirit, mood, hopes, fears, and feelings of Kentuckians as we continue to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak.
Here Today... will be a snapshot of Kentucky as we have been going through these uncertain times, creating a collective narrative of our State which will reflect the resilience, bravery, humor and sadness, creativity and kindness as well as the very real human tragedy but also the presence of irrepressible hope. Originally limited to images that included people, this project has been expanded to include animals as well as scenes or a situation that specifically relates to this pandemic period.
You are invited to submit a photographic image (up to three) taken during these times that responds to but is not limited to one of these themes:
Helpers and Heroes
Your New Normal
Love in the time of Covid-19 (Acts of Kindness)
Humor as a form of Healing
Where would we be without ...
Images submitted will be featured in a virtual exhibition on this website and images will be shown in a physical location later as a public art exhibition.
The first photo submission is FREE, thereafter there is a $10 per entry fee - 40% of which will be donated to the Artist Relief Trust that has been created to provide rapid response microgrants to Kentucky artists who are experiencing financial difficulties meeting basic needs during this difficult time. Up to three entries can be submitted per person. It is open to all ages and abilities. Images can be taken on phones or with cameras. Each image will be assessed on the strength of the emotional experience it conveys rather than its photographic quality or technical expertise. Photographs must be taken in Kentucky. Entries are not limited to one per person - multiple submissions are permitted.
An Overall Winner will be selected and a cash prize of $500 will be awarded to the photographer of the image that best captures the spirit of Kentucky during COVID-19. Additionally, our online voting community will cast votes for the "People's Choice" award, and the winning photographer will be awarded a $200 cash prize.
A special thanks to Field & Main Bank of Lexington, KY for making the Overall Winner cash prize possible.
