About this workshop:
Jump into the world of fiber art with this two-part workshop! You will learn how to wet-felt and needle-felt and leave with two finished projects.
Session 1 (April 29): After a brief introduction about the history of felt-making, participants will learn the two primary methods of creating felt: needle-felting and wet-felting. To practice needle-felting, participants will make a small felted scene, which they will take home as the art in a photo-frame notecard The participants will learn to wet-felt by creating an approximately 11 x 24 inch piece of felt. This wool fabric will serve as a colorful, abstract background for the following week's project. Session 2 (May 6): This week participants will needle-felt a scene onto the wet-felted backgrounds they created last week. Examples of foreground scenes may include figures, flowers, or the silhouette of a cityscape. Those whose designs are more complex will receive guidance in executing their projects, while those with simpler designs may finish quickly and be supported in embellishing their work. At the end of the session, participants will each have a completed felting, which may be hung on a wall using clips and a tapestry rod. |
About Kris Grenier:
Fiber artist and backpacker Kris Grenier explores the world on foot and has logged more than 7500 miles on the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Camino de Santiago, Colorado Trail and Arizona Trail. After returning home to her family's small farm, Grenier records her memories in two-dimensional wool feltings to share with others the wild places she loves. Her focus has turned to large-scale pieces that allow viewers to imagine themselve in the backcountry and evoke the grandeur of expansive natural landscapes. A juried artist in the Kentucky Crafted Program, Grenier was recently awarded a 2022 Emerging Artist Grant by the Kentucky Arts Council. |
