Join Dr Everett McCorvey, UK Opera Director and Dr Tedrin Blair Lindsay, UK Opera Coach and explore one of America's most charming arts destinations for this once-in-a-lifetime trip to Santa Fa specifically designed to satisfy the cravings of any opera lover. Enjoy all five productions of the Santa Fe Opera Theatre’s 2023 season: The Flying Dutchman, Orfeo, Rusalka, Pelleas et Melisande, and finally, Tosca.
Immerse yourself in another world with a six nights and seven day stay at the historic Santa Fe Hotel and Spa in the heart of the Railyard District of Santa Fe, a tradition-centric retreat that invites you to experience true hospitality in the city's only Native American owned hotel.
In addition to nightly opera attendance with best seats in the house, we'll visit Ghost Ranch, beloved home and inspirational landscape for many of Georgia O'Keeffe's artworks as well as a private tour of her studio/home in Abiquiu. Walk the historic neighborhoods and famous art district on a guided tour of Santa Fe whilst sampling some of the famous flavors of New Mexico cuisine. We will dine in landscaped courtyards and patios, and indulge ourselves in artisan chocolates. There will be docent-led tours of the New Mexico Museum of Art as well as the Folk Art Museum where there will be time to linger in their fabulous gift shop. An afternoon concert at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival is also on the itinerary and much of one day will be spent luxuriating at the world famous Ten Thousand Waves spa. Opportunities to visit additional landmarks such as the 17th century Palace of the Governors, Canyon Road, the Santa Fe Plaza and the Lorretto Chapel will also be available. We will be visiting Santa Fe during the weekend of famous Indian Market - the largest Native American juried art show in the world that takes place on and around Santa Fe's central plaza.

Plan to transfer from Albuquerque International Airport to your hotel in downtown Santa Fe.

Tuesday, August 15
Start the day with a leisurely guided art walk to see and experience some of the most amazing world-renown galleries and learn more about the vibrant art community. After lunch we'll enjoy a sweet intermission and some edible art with an artisan chocolate tasting. Dinner on the grounds of the beautiful Santa Fe Opera before settling back for our first opera treat - a performance of The Flying Dutchman

No visit to New Mexico is complete without exploring the life and legacy of Georgia O'Keeffe, the "Mother of American Modernism". We will visit the museum that houses the largest collect of her work followed by a box lunch at the New Mexico Museum of Art where we will enjoy a noon concert that is part of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. Then a tour of the Museum, itself an iconic architectural landmark, where we will see and sense the dynamic connection between art and community. After some afternoon free time we'll regroup for dinner and then on to the evening's opera production of Orfeo. Based on the famous legend of lovers Orpheus and Eruydice, Montedverdi's famous tragic masterpiece with orchestration by Nico Muhly, will be a World Premier production.

Thursday, August 17
Located in 20 wooded acres, Ten Thousand Waves is an upmarket, Japanese-themed spa about 15 minutes from downtown Santa Fe. We will spend several hours here enjoying the serenity of the setting and the luxury of the spa facilities. Lunch will be at their Japanese style restaurant Izanami. After some free time in the afternoon we shall set out for the Opera House, this time to see Rusalka.

Friday, August 18
Today we visit Ghost Ranch the 21,000 acre property that served as Georgia O'Keeffe's home and backdrop to her work for decades. Enjoy lunch on the property along with a landscape tour of the towering rock walls, vibrant colors and open skies that inspired and are reflected in her artwork. Back to Santa Fe and a hosted reception/dinner before Debussy's Pelleas and Melisande - a story inspired by the original play written by Belgian author Maurice Maeterlinck about destructive passions, and a love triangle of royal proportions. This is one of the most epic stories about forbidden doomed love ever told.

Saturday, August 19
The day begins with a trip to and tour of the International Folk Art Museum. The museum's holdings represent diverse cultures and constitute the largest collection of international folk art in the world. Lunch at The Cafe on Museum Hill with some free time afterwards. Our final opera on the last night of the trip will be Tosca, a roller coaster story of love, lust, murder and political intrigue. With Puccini's richly romantic score, it is one of the world's most loved operas.

Sunday, August 20
This is the final day of our trip. There will be an opportunity to visit the Railyard Artisan Market. Enjoy some time at your leisure to explore this market before continuing for individual flights home.

Dr Everett McCorvey

Dr Everett McCorvey, tenor, is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. He has performed in many cities around the world and theaters across the country.
Dr McCorvey is a tenor soloist, conductor, and professor of voice. He is the founder and music director of the American Spiritual Ensemble, the director and executive producer of University of Kentucky Opera Theatre, president of Global Creative Connections, a production and management company for musical and theatrical events, and the artistic director of the National Chorale. He holds the Lexington Opera Society Endowed Chair in Opera Studies. |
Dr Tedrin Blair Lindsay, pianist and musicologist, was raised in Rome, Italy, and has been a professional accompanist since age 10. He performs over 100 concerts annually, with a repertoire of chamber works, and his own compositions and arrangements for piano and voices with orchestra.
Dr. Lindsay is on the opera faculty at the University of Kentucky, where he works as vocal coach and musical director. Lindsay teaches the Lexington Opera Society Lecture Series and is a music and theatre critic for the Lexington Herald-Leader. |
