PAINTED 2025: International Competitive Biennial Survey of Contemporary Painting
Deadline: June 21, 2025
Artist Opportunity Type: Fair or Festival
Entry Fee: 45
Open to (any restrictions on entries): Open Internationally
Exhibition/Event Dates: September 26, 2025 - October 24, 2025
Event Location (City/Venue): Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center, 2727 Woodburn Avenue, Cincinnati, OH, 45206
Contact: [email protected]
Additional Information: The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works of contemporary painting. Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media.
At some point many generations ago society reached a level where ordinary people could spend a lifetime perfecting their ability to mix and apply paint, in extraordinary ways. A decade ago, to mark Manifest's 10th season the gallery kicked off a permanent biennial project surveying painting as an art form. It was first presented in fall 2013 to inaugurate our expanded gallery. PAINTED 2025 will be the seventh biennial presentation of this international survey of contemporary painting.
PAINTED joins Drawn as a recurring gallery exhibition designed to complement our ongoing triennial INDA and INPA (drawing and painting) publications. Every two years it launches our exhibition season by presenting a competitive group exhibition focused exclusively on painting.
PAINTED is a gallery exhibit that calls for works of painting by artists around the world as they carry the tradition forward, or reform it for another day. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental, including those which push the boundaries of the common definition of what constitutes ‘painting'.
$45 for up to three entries. $5 per each additional entry.
Includes honorarium of $50 for each exhibiting artist, and Grand Jury Award of $1,000 for one jury-selected work from among the exhibits on view.

AQUACHROME 2025: International Competitive Biennial Exhibit of Contemporary Watercolor*
Deadline: June 22, 2025
Artist Opportunity Type: Fair or Festival
Entry Fee: 45
Open to (any restrictions on entries): Open Internationally
Exhibition/Event Dates: September 26, 2025 - October 24, 2025
Event Location (City/Venue): Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center, 2727 Woodburn Avenue, Cincinnati, OH, 45206
Contact: [email protected]
Additional Information: The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit original works of contemporary watercolor. Open to all traditional and non-traditional approaches to the medium. *Watercolor, gouache, ink wash, tempera, and other similar painting media are all eligible. Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual or experimental.
Quite possibly the oldest form of painting, watercolor persists today, defying narrow categorization and broad stereotype. Practiced for centuries in concept development preliminary to finished paintings made in oil or other scale-worthy durable media, watercolor also found favor with botanists, illustrators, and portraitists, and was applied to varied and countless surfaces.
The nature of the media itself represents a delicate and dictatorial transparency, fluidity, and a potential for expressive spontaneity. This not only makes it an ideal vehicle for visual art, but also one of training, intensity, philosophy, and play for any who practice it. Where an artist can easily dominate other painting media, forcing a will through viscous layers into a work of art like taming a wild horse, with watercolor there is dialog, compromise, and undeniable forthrightness. In this way the artist practicing watercolor works with a tiger in the room.
$45 for up to three entries. $5 per each additional entry.
Includes honorarium of $50 for each exhibiting artist, and Grand Jury Award of $1,000 for one jury-selected work from among the exhibits on view.

SEASON 22 (2025/26) SOLO EXHIBIT PROPOSALS
Deadline: June 22, 2025
Artist Opportunity Type: Exhibition
Entry Fee: 50
Open to (any restrictions on entries): Open Internationally
Exhibition/Event Dates: September 2025-September 2026
Event Location (City/Venue): Manifest Creative Research Gallery and Drawing Center, 2727 Woodburn Avenue, Cincinnati, OH, 45206
Contact: [email protected]
Additional Information: The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit proposals of original bodies of work for consideration during the 2025/26 exhibit season.
On average, one-third of Manifest's exhibits are dedicated to solo exhibits. Solo exhibitors have included local, regional, and national artists from as far away as New York City, San Francisco, Canada, and Hong Kong. It is important to our non-profit mission that each of our seasons of free public exhibits consist of a balanced mix of solo and group thematic projects. The group shows provide diversity of approach, media, style, and geographic origin, while the solo exhibits provide a deeper insight into an artist's vision. Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media.
Anyone can submit a proposal. Artists should bear in mind the need for a consistent and very strong body of work when submitting. Quality of documentation/images affects the committee's impression of the submitting artist.
Each proposal must be accompanied by a $50 non-refundable submission fee.
Includes honorarium of $100 for each solo exhibiting artist, and Grand Jury Award of $1,000 for one jury-selected work from among the exhibits on view.

Wall-Mounted Artwork Commission for The Temple Sanctuary
Deadline: Ongoing

Artist Opportunity Type: RFQ
Entry Fee: free
Open to (any restrictions on entries): Open internationally
Exhibition/Event Dates: TBA
Event Location (City/Venue): 5101 US-42 • LOUISVILLE, KY 40241
Contact Name: [email protected]
Additional Information: The Temple https://www.thetemplelouky.org/ Sanctuary Renovation Committee seeks
qualifications from established professional artists or artist teams seeking to win the commission to create two wall-mounted artworks for the Temple’s sanctuary in Louisville, KY, as part of renovations taking place in summer 2024. These artworks will depict subjects, themes, and/or events related to the heritage and practice of Judaism.
The Committee and Donor are interested in contemporary and/or traditional styles, and will not consider entirely non-objective or highly abstract work. There will be a narrative or referential component to the artworks. We are open to any medium, but the work must be two-dimensional or low relief (no thicker than 10”). Works will be sited on two side walls of the Sanctuary, and must fit within mounting/display
areas that are 36’6” X 16’. After reviewing the Qualifications submitted in response to this call, the Committee will notify 3
finalists who will be asked to submit specific proposals. Finalists will receive a stipend to cover costs of preparing their proposals.
Finalists will present their proposals to the Committee and the Donor in person, if possible. The format for presentations of proposed artworks may be digital or physical or both, but the
presentations must provide the review panel a clear visualization of the works as they will appear in the sanctuary. The Committee will provide renderings of the planned interior renovations to aid in this process.
It is important for applicants to understand that finalization of the artwork’s design will progress in collaboration with the Committee, the Donor, and The Temple Rabbi David Ariel-Joel.
Qualified applicants must submit
1. A complete Curriculum Vita (CV) that includes a full list of commissions and exhibitions.
2. A one-to-two page Letter of Introduction/Application articulating the applicant’s interest in and capacity to successfully complete the commission. Letters should also address applicants' experience working collaboratively with commissioners.
3. Two (2) images each of three (3) completed artworks (6 images total- preferably all commissions) that demonstrate competence to successfully realize this work for The Temple. Strong portfolios will show completed work at the indicated scale
(roughly 30’ X 12’), and clearly depict the artist(s) experience creating two-dimensional and/or low relief artworks in a representational style with narrative content. Strong portfolios will also show completed works in their permanent installation locations.
File Formats: CV and letter must be in PDF format. Images should be .jpg or .png format, 300 dpi, and between 1200 and 2400 pixels in the LONGEST DIMENSION. Image files should be no larger than 5MB each. Qualifications should be sent to:

Additional Info/Opportunity Summary
Minnie Adkins Day 2025
Elliott County’s Minnie Adkins Day is ready to go again. We want to invite everyone to come to one of the biggest and best folk-art festivals in eastern Kentucky. It is an outdoor festival held at the Little Sandy Lodge in Sandy Hook, Kentucky on July 19, 2025.
Minnie Adkins Day started in July of 2014 as a way to honor our local resident folk artist Minnie Adkins and her contributions to Elliott County, Kentucky. It is a local arts and crafts market with music, entertainment, fun, and food. It gives us the chance to honor someone who has done so much for our county and people in general.

Minnie Adkins is one of the best-known folk woodcarving artists in Kentucky. She is adept at creating animal carvings and has given generous assistance to her various neighbors to help them in developing art careers of their own. Minnie is known for her red foxes, bears, possums, tigers, and roosters. Her figures are smoothly carved and painted, and the animal faces are distinctive. Minnie also carves and paints scenes from the Bible, but overall, her favorite subjects are animals.
To many in Kentucky, the twig roosters carved by Minnie Adkins are synonymous with the term “folk art.” She taught herself to carve as a child, and it was not until 1987 that she realized that others might be interested in buying her work. Not only were others interested, but the demand was so high that her husband, Garland Linville Adkins, began carving as well. Together the two artists created some of the most sought-after folk art in the country.
Although Garland passed away in 1997, Minnie Adkins continued to create a diverse range of art, including pottery. In 1999 she married Herman Peters, and almost immediately inspired him to become an artist as well! Peters made giant iron roosters, among other things. After Herman’s death on June 6, 2008, Minnie again continued to create her folk art now assisted by her grandson, Greg Adkins, and her son Mike Adkins.
She has been featured in short documentary films, videos, and many publications. In the late 1980s, Minnie and Garland founded “A Day in the Country”, a folk-art fair that featured works by over 50 folk artists from Kentucky and many other states. The American Folk Art Museum, The Smithsonian, The National Gallery of Art and many more collect Minnie’s works. Many critics consider her one of the most important artists of the twentieth century. Minnie continues to carve her iconic figures and collaborate with author, Mike Norris, on his children's books. Her home county, Elliott, has designated the 3rd Saturday in July as a day to honor and celebrate its own resident Folk Artist.
If you have never visited you are welcome to join us for one of the biggest folk-art festivals in Eastern Kentucky, Elliott County’s Minnie Adkins Day. Always held on the third Saturday of July, Minnie Adkins Day will be filled with lots of art, both folk and fine, traditional heritage inspired crafts, food, music, and loads of fun. The spaces for Vendor setup are still just $10 and are open to artists and crafts persons from everywhere. There is no admission for guests to get in. So just come on in to look, shop, and just visit with us for a while. For more information go to our website: https//www.littlesandylodge.com or call us at 606-738-5515 or you can check the Minnie Adkins page on Facebook. We hope to see you there.
