Call for Artists
Request for Qualifications
for artists residing in Lexington or Central Kentucky.
Application Deadline: February 15, 2026
Artist Opportunity Type:
Commission for work of art to recognize donors to be installed
Eligibility: We would like this work done by local artists with expertise in making a free-standing piece of art and/or memorial donor recognition art. Special consideration will be given to artists over 60 years old.
Media: We are open to any medium that can withstand weather because this piece will be installed outdoors in front of the Lexington Senior Center on Life Lane in Lexington.
Budget: Not yet determined
Location for Artwork: The piece will be installed in Idle Hour Park on the parcel of land occupied by the Lexington Senior Center, located at 195 Life Lane, Lexington KY 40502. The proposed location will be near the East corner of the building property in a grassy lawn. The art piece needs to be on a concrete pad (or some other type of base) so that the mowing crew doesn’t damage it. This area is in front of the building to the right of the main entrance. This area is in front of the building to the right of the main entrance. The area for the art piece is a lawn surrounded by a “path” of white rocks.
Size: We are flexible on the size but want the base to accommodate possible additional weight from future additions (possibly a modular system to allow addition of new donors in the future). We are flexible as to size. It is important that the piece be visually impactful and to make a strong statement. The donor art piece is being commissioned to honor our community, tell our story, and move people toward generosity.
Contact: Mary Beth McCormac, Secretary Friends of Lexington Senior Center, 703-409-0455, [email protected]
Request for Qualifications: The Friends of the Lexington Senior Centers is seeking a local artist to create a work of art that recognizes donors to our non-profit organization. The design must accommodate the need to add donors in the future to the piece. We want the art piece to reflect our quilt theme. (Images upon request.) We use a stylized quilt square as our logo to represent that many people of different backgrounds come together to participate and benefit from the services the Senior Centers offer. We aim to foster a lively community for seniors to connect and form meaningful friendships. To learn more about our organization visit https://lexseniorcentersfriends.org/

Lou on Lumber: Juried Art Exhibition
Deadline: March 1, 2026
Artist Opportunity Type: Exhibition
Entry Fee: $0
Open to (any restrictions on entries): Artists in the Kentuckiana area
Exhibition/Event Dates: May 20- August 10, 2026.
Event Location (City/Venue): Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, 800 W Main Street
Contact: [email protected]
Additional Information: Lou On Lumber is an annual juried exhibit showcased at Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory that aims to celebrate Louisville's rich culture through the eyes of local artists. We are looking for five Kentuckiana artists to cover the barrels of five Louisville Slugger bats with imagery that follows the theme of ‘hometown pride.’
Louisville is one of the oldest cities west of the Appalachian Mountains with a rich history to spark inspiration. Not only has the city birthed sports icons like Louisville Slugger bats, Muhammad Ali, and the Derby, but also film and music stars like Jennifer Lawrence and the Grammy Award-winning Louisville Orchestra. The city maintains a distinct indie scene at the heart of Bardstown Road in the Highlands and a strong college sports fanbase for the University of Louisville. Perhaps inspiration lies in the architectural treasures of the city, such as the Old Louisville neighborhood’s Victorian-style homes or the Louisville Water Tower, the oldest water tower in the U.S.
We encourage you to use imagery of all local landmarks, events, and icons that invoke the feeling of ‘hometown pride’ for you in your submission. Don’t feel limited to only using one medium or sticking with a 2D design, we want this submission to reflect your personal style and creative peak! Artists will be selected from the application pool by the museum’s curatorial team and a jury made up of curators and artists from the community (jurors to be announced). The five finalists will then have approximately eight weeks from the date they receive their bats to complete their proposed designs before May 20 - the installation date.
Hillerich & Bradsby Co. - makers of Louisville Slugger - will provide the selected artists with $200, which they will receive along with their bats at the beginning of the work period. Each selected artist will receive two bats, although only one will be for display. Bat handles will be painted black. Bats will be displayed together horizontally.
The five finished bats will be on display at Louisville Slugger Museum through August 10, 2026 – a period in which about 100,000 guests will have a chance to see the artists’ work!

Additional Information: HOUSEGUEST is an independent artist-run project space located in the south end of Louisville, Kentucky. The space launched in January of 2018. Founded by multi-disciplinary artist and writer Megan Bickel and her husband, chef Jacob Wilson, the gallery's location is in the living room of the couple's house. The space will hold six exhibitions a year: four solo shows and two group exhibitions.  Alongside each exhibition will be a small supper pop-up collaborative event, which will be by invitation only. We encourage artists to interact and activate the space while exploring new ideas and concepts, with full control over what they create.
