Episode 17 of the Art Throb podcast features Buffy Lawson who this month was inducted into the Kentucky Academy of Local Musicians Hall of Fame 2023.
Buffy's career really started when she was a little girl but blossomed when she moved to Nashville in 1991. There her songs landed her staff writing positions at several publishers, while her voice caught the ear of Producer Bob Gaudio who teamed her up with Neil Diamond to duet on the song Marry Me which she performed with him on the Jay Leno show.
She spent time on the road as one of the duo band Bomshel and opened for acts like Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley and Trace Rice. Then, putting life on the road aside she went on to write songs that were recorded by the likes of Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Kenny Rogers and yes… Dolly Parton!
After 20 years in Nashville she followed her heart back home to Lexington and married her high school sweetheart.
