The Last Ridgeline is based on a scene from my journey along the Colorado Trail in the summer of 2017. For three and a half weeks, I backpacked from Denver to Durango, walking in forests, near alpine lakes, and over rocky passes. I enjoyed watching marmots and picas play amongst the rocks and big horn sheep and mule deer graze the hillsides. I woke to bright blue skies every morning, and thunderstorms crashed around me every afternoon. The journey was a meditation on the majesty of nature, and it was truly a spectacular experience. This felting features a scene that brought tears to my eyes: the final ridge of mountains before the descent to first Taylor Lake and then to the trail’s terminus.
