SECTION 25
Colorado Trail
2022
fiber, needle-felted wool

$3250
As the Colorado Trail approaches its western terminus at Durango, it traverses the San Juan Mountains. Here, the trail routinely stays at 10,000-12,000 feet above sea level, winding around rocky peaks, over the glacial headwaters of rivers and streams, and through marmot-populated meadows.
Named after the portion of the trail it depicts, Section 25 is a tribute to the backcountry of western Colorado, which I enjoyed exploring in 2017. In late summer, tussocks of grasses, shrubs, and wildflowers blanket the mountain slope, and rusty-red peaks rise from the horizon. A small stream cascades over rocks in the distance and, in the foreground, babbles over rocks—each felted individually from wool.
