#7 from the Man-Altered Landscape series by Clay Wainscott
Acrylic on Canvas
48 x 48 inches
Clay's painting technique is derived in part from his prior experience screen-printing which uses a separate stencil for each color. He applies one color at a time, just the primaries, each reduced to transparency with secondary colors mixing onto the canvas back to front.
‘I’m interested in how the world is seen and the memories of places and things we all share. My aim is to reconstitute the habituated and unattended peripheries of perception, constructing a more tangibly present image than photo-accuracy and one that challenges the thresholds of the attention and awareness each time it’s seen.’
