The 800-mile Arizona Trail traverses a striking mix of ecosystems on its way
from the Mexican border to Utah. From the Sonoran Desert to the “sky
islands” of Arizona’s mountain peaks and from the Grand Canyon to the
Kaibab Plateau, the trail takes hikers from one expansive landscape to
another.
After a traumatic ending to my first Arizona Trail hike, returning to the trail
in 2024 was a healing journey. The desert garden and rocky summit
interpreted in this felting comprise the view from the campsite that marked
the end of retracing my footsteps and the beginning of a new way forward.
“Moving On,” with its pink clouds of daybreak, is a tribute to new
beginnings.
