In this episode of Art Throb, host Kate Savage speaks with two lifelong friends of artist Dan Stone. Ave Lawyer and Claudia Michler, about his life, work, and the retrospective exhibition currently at LuigART Studios showcasing over 500 pieces of his art. They reflect on Dan's unique approach to art, his reclusive nature, and the profound impact he had on those around him. The conversation delves into Dan's artistic techniques, the emotional depth of his work, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Dan Stone was a prolific artists but seldom made a formal exhibition of his work, neither his painting nor his writings. He adhered to the idea that his art was not a commodity, but a personal statement of vision, and regarded his efforts as one might a private diary kept under lock and key.
Last year, at the age of 71, Dan was diagnosed with cancer. In his final days he wrote detailed notes and spoke of his life and work, leaving instructions for his artwork to be shown and sold upon his passing.
As a result, a massive exhibition was undertaken by the owners of LuigART Studios, with approximately 100 works installed on walls and the remainder catalogued and available for viewing behind the scenes.
