Book Benchesis a collaborative project among Arts Connect, LexArts and The Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning.
Modeled after Horse Mania, thirty five book shaped functional benches, each illustrated and themed around different works by Kentucky authors, will be placed throughout Lexington for the duration of summer 2018 to celebrate Kentucky's literary heritage, to encourage reading and to provide a place for rest. Sponsorships are available at several levels. Through an open call, Kentucky artists will be invited to submit a bench illustration based on a book written by a Kentucky author. A list of suggested writers will be provided. Additional books for design interpretation will also be permitted - subject to approval. Sponsors will be able to choose their book design with priority being given to first paid in full, first to select from artists' submissions. Book Benches will be placed throughout Lexington for public display June-October 2018. There will be a final Gala and Auction of benches on Saturday, 17th November 2018 at The Livery. Proceeds from this to further the missions of Arts Connect, LexArts and the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning.
